Apple Intelligence
Starting next month, users of compatible iPhones will be able to enjoy the full Apple Intelligence features (in beta) as part of the expected iOS 18.1 update. Unless they live in the EU or China – the two regions where Apple will not be releasing the new AI features just yet
First off, let’s look at which devices qualify to get Apple Intellgence in the first place. Due to NPU performance and RAM requirements, only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max from the older models are supported, but all new models (iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max) are compatible.
You will need iOS 18.1, of course, at least 4GB of available storage and setting the device and Siri language to a supported language.
Only US English will be supported in the beginning, but other regional English variants will be added in December. Next year, the language selection will expand to support Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish.
Apple Intelligence, Apple’s latest AI-driven feature set, will roll out in phases starting in late 2024. Here’s the confirmed timeline and countries that will receive it:
- First Phase – October 2024:
The first release will be in October for U.S. users. It will be part of iOS 18.1 and will initially be available in U.S. English. This release will include several core features such as notification summaries, Reduce Interruptions Focus, and new editing tools in Photos. - Second Phase – December 2024:
In December, Apple Intelligence will expand to additional English-speaking countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. These regions will have access to more advanced language models tailored to their respective dialects. - Third Phase – 2025:
In 2025, Apple plans to introduce Apple Intelligence in other languages, with the rollout expected to cover Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish. This global expansion will also include additional AI-driven features like Genmoji and Image Playground, which were delayed from the initial rollout.
While other markets, including India, have not been prioritized, it’s possible they could be added later in 2025 or beyond as part of future updates.
These releases will primarily target iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and devices powered by Apple’s M1 chip or newer, including iPads and Macs.
This staggered release strategy allows Apple to optimize the experience across different regions and languages, ensuring a smooth introduction of its cutting-edge AI features.
